Age (In)appropriate (Part 4): Spike Vs. Caramel by Pony-Berserker Age (In)appropriate (Part 4): Spike Vs. Caramel by Pony-Berserker
UPDATE: I wanted to make an indirect reference to the Shining... but NO. It must be a direct quote. Fine! Here's Johnny now. I hope those who whined are happy now :P (plus Tea Love is now hissing. I forgot to add that speech bubble for some reason ^^;

:bulletyellow: Part 4: You are here!

Things escalate quickly. And might get out of hand, even if everything is seemingly under control.

Well, I tried to make the layout of this comic look a bit more interesting. I hope I achieved what I wanted.
Special thanks to labba94 for his feedback on the pictures, and to VoidChicken, doubleWbrothers and alamais for pre-reading and putting up with me. You guys are awesome.

Spike is like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.

Couldn't help but notice that Spike is getting better at taking more brutal measures while maintaining innocence. Especially from his interaction with Twilight in the middle panel, he'd have to get good at reading people, and know how to adapt, in order to keep doing so.

This approach actually reminds me a lot of the ones taken by Queen Chrysalis. That, and chances are that (particularly in learning how to adapt with which approaches are too far and within some degree of control, and learning how to read people), Chrysalis had similar experiences. Can't help but wonder how Spike would react to an impressed changeling revealing that he/she has been watching him and thinks he can make a valuable contribution towards Chrysalis (err... still trying to figure out why the changelings need to be evil instead of neutral though).

Anywho... theories aside, you have very dynamic character expressions in your work in general, and a good eye for detail in the backgrounds (like the fact that the bushes don't look mashed together but are instead well placed).

anyone think that all would be avoided if Rarity just started out in the open and told spike:

1/ that his crush on her has to end, it will never happen because he is a baby dragon, and to twist the knife, he is just a child and that he needs to play with somepony his own age,

2/that she is somewhat savvy enough that she knows Spike is purposely sabotaging her dates with other stallions; and

3/  kindly tell him that Sweetie Belle has a crush on him, and even though she knows that it will not last because they are too young to understand love like adults can (hah, that's a load, Rarity the hypocrite),  he should use his effort away from trying to woo her and get Sweetie Bell or some other filly.  Obviously some filly (or mare, if she is willing to wait a little while for him to grow up) will catch his eye and would give him the attention he deserves that Rarity will obviously (and mercifully in her eyes) refuse to give.

....can't help it, can't stand Rarity with someone else, even if Spike's a kid and it's obvious that it wouldn't happen and it would be better to hook up with somepony or somefilly else.     (I will always root for the underdog,  there is too much IRL where said underdog is swept under the rug, I believe in that saying of every dog having his day, and I believe Spike hasn't had his day in the sun---maybe it already has, and he missed it)  I know,  it's childish, let it go.   Flame if you want.  It's just what I feel.

But if Rarity did all of that, that comic would inevitably end sooner than it is now! D:

never said that my previous comment made sense.....:iconsweatdropplz:

I am also well aware of the trope were characters are blissfully ignorant of what is seems to be obvious to the audience, and that if the characters in a story are able to see the white elephant in the room as the audience can, then the story be adversly and fatally affected.  So for the sake of the story, we have to have own own lampshade and just move on.  Nothing to see here....**whistles**

You can ignore the rant at your leisure.  Shouldn't have said it in the first place, but it's out now.  I have to take responsibility for my words.

Hm... why would I be angry about your first comment? Technically you are right, but everything in this comic is made for the sake of (black) comedy and characters are just flanderized, that's all. And your comment was written politely, I didn't even get a feeling it was supposed to be a rant.
